Hi there, welcome back to your Japanese lesson with me riizhu, let's learn Japanese lesson here together. Today, we are going to
learn a Japanese conditional lesson using ~ba, there are many conditional forms in Japanese, but in this article we will focus on learning ~ba conditional form and we will learn other conditional forms in next posts.
Must Learn Before, Learn Izenkei:
4 Japanese Verb Basic Conjugations
Grammar ~ba (~ば)
JLPT Level: N4
Formula:
Sentence 1 + ba + sentence 2 If the ending of sentence 1 is:
Verb: Izenkei verb + ば. Example:
読む > 読めば
yomu > yomeba 食べる > 食べれば
taberu > tabereba する > すれば
suru > sureba 来る > 来れば
kuru > kureba I-adjective/Negative form: Drop い ending and attach ければ. Example:
良い > 良ければ
yoi > yokereba 面白くない > 面白くなければ
omoshirokunai > omoshirokunakereba Noun/Na-adjective + であれば. Example:
有名 > 有名であれば
yuumei > yuumei de areba 先生 > 先生であれば
sensei > sensei de areba Meaning: If...
Explanation: This expression is used when you want to say things like "If you do A, the *natural consequence would be* B" type of "if" sentences.
Sentence Example:
もう少し安ければ、買います
mou sukoshi yasureba, kaimasu
I will buy it if it is a little bit cheaper
君が学校に行けば私も行く
kimi ga gakkou ni ikeba watashi mo iku
If you go to school I will also go
部屋が暗ければ、電気を付けてください
heya ga kurakereba denki o tsukete kudasai
If the room is dark, please turn on the light
明日、いい天気であれば、サッカーをしませんか
ashita, ii tenki areba, sakka o shimasen ka
If It's fine tomorrow, won't you play soccer with me
