Japanese Grammar for Prohibition ~te wa ikenai/naranai/dame (~てはいけない/ならない/だめ)

Grammar ~te wa ikenai/naranai/dame (~てはいけない/ならない/だめ)

JLPT Level: N4
Meaning: must not (something that must be done)
Formula:
te form + wa particle + ikenai/naranai/dame
Must learn before: te form verb conjugation
Note: dame=casual, ikenai/ikemasen=formal, naranai/narimasen=used in prohibition that apply to more than one person like rules or policies
Sentence example:
この記事を読んではだめ
kono kiji o yonde wa dame
You can't (must not) read this article
全部食べてはいけない
zenbu tabete wa ikenai
Don't (must not) eat all
眠いときに運転してはなりません
nemui toki ni unten shite wa narimasen
Don't (must not) drive when sleepy/tired
僕のスマホを触ってはだめだよ
boku no sumaho o sawatte wa dame da yo
Don't touch my smartphone
ムスリムとして、お酒を飲んではなりません
musurimu toshite, osake o nonde wa narimasen
As a Muslim you are not allowed (should not) to drink alcohol
